This tool looks fascinating but I'm having trouble figuring out if learning to to use it will actually help me.

Basically, is there a way to take a pre-existing map (something I've drawn) and plug it in somehow to get biome distribution information from? I have some locations and features pre-planned, but I want to figure out where to put them, and then build the rest of the world around that, then check if placing them drastically changes biomes, then tweak and iterate until it sits nicely.

Is this a thing I can do? What would I need to learn to achieve that, and is there a glossary available somewhere about the technical terminology involved here?

Thankyou, hope this is an ok message!

There is no feature for adding biomes to predrawn maps.  There is in the offline version a possibility to provide a very low-resolution sketch and generate maps based on this, including biomes, but you do not have fine control of map features.

Maybe we could have an option to specify how many columns and rows the map file should have - and be able to make a really detailed map file?

The default is 24*12 (or 15*15 degrees), but how about 120*60 (3*3 degrees)?

I would rather let the size be determined by the input file directly.  Even a one-character file could make sense, as you cold specify shallow water to make a mostly-water planet and low land to make a mostly-land planet.

I have considered doing this for a while, but not gotten around to do it.

Yeah that's what I meant ^

I have now made this change, so input maps can be any (rectangular) size up to 1000×1000.

Oh heck yeah! I found the map input option but it seemed too low resolution for my usage and decided to move on, but that might be worth experimenting with at least!

Now the hard part of actually learning to use the tool when I'm completely unfamiliar with command-line type stuff, heh, but that is what it is.
