NASA sent a New Horizons probe heading toward Pluto, but it still has a long way to go. We have a chance to produce a Pluto planet map before NASA does. :) Here's what I got for Pluto color map: 6 26 19 19 32770 56 68 80 32771 56 68 80 61439 109 86 41 63487 147 115 55 64511 241 233 216 65535 218 196 154 Let's see who can come up with a better color scheme. Deadline is sometime in June when the probe's telescope can get close enough to produce good photos. Probe flies past Pluto on July 14, this year. Tips: 1. I find putting the high limit to 65535 (vs 255 or smaller) produces more colors. 2. Google Search (or other search engine) with key word "Pluto" provides many blurry samples that may still be useful as a color model. 3. Despite blurriness appearing smooth, further analysis suggest that Pluto really is smooth. Think of it being similarly smooth as Ceres or Vesta. |

If anyone is still up to this challenge... deadline is coming fast.... http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/nasas-horizons-probe-clearest-date-plutos-complex-surface/story?id=31719935 Challenge ends when NASA publishes their first color photo of Pluto in a reasonably clear way. |

Here's my new color map of Pluto... I think this makes the render pretty good.... 6 26 19 19 16388 56 68 80 24579 82 77 61 28674 95 81 51 32770 108 86 40 32771 109 86 41 61439 128 100 48 63487 147 115 55 64511 241 233 216 65535 218 196 154 I also set "Distance Contribution to Variation" = 0.025 "Altitude Contribution to Variation" = 0.77 "Latitude Color Adjustment" = "Even More Adjustment" (-C -C -C) and "Initial Base Land Altitude" = 0.00 |
